A common theme that comes up when I’m coaching clients is achievements. Mainly that we don’t focus enough on what we’ve achieved, instead concentrating more on what we haven’t or what’s gone wrong. But our achievements, both big and small, deserve our attention and celebration for several reasons.

Moving forward
To make the most of our achievements:

  • Keep a record of your successes, big and small
  • Regularly reflect on the way you got to each achievement and the steps you took
  • Share accomplishments with supportive people – it’ll encourage them too
  • Use past successes as motivation for future goals
  • Celebrate others’ achievements to encourage a positive environment.

Overwhelmed at the thought of trying?
Start small – Rome wasn’t built in a day! Importantly, don’t put off till tomorrow what you can achieve today. Day to day, make a list of three things you’d like to achieve, making sure they are actually doable. You’ll get disheartened and fall at the first hurdle if you have three massive tasks to do.
Prioritise the order in which you need to do things in case your day gets derailed. Then use this system:

  • Recognise what you need to achieve
  • Identify why you need to achieve it
  • Plan how you’re going to achieve it
  • Question what will happen if you don’t do it

And then take action and do it!
No more procrastination! You will feel better when it’s done and wonder why it took you so long. What you want or need to achieve is different for all of us – it can be work-related, personal, or to do with your family. And one achievement can lead to another as they are often closely connected. Awareness and action leads to achievement.
Remember that focusing on our achievements isn't about ego or comparison. You don’t need to justify yourself or shout out on social media what you’ve done. It's about acknowledging our growth, learning from our successes and building the confidence to reach for new heights.
